Pleasant Grove's playoff journey starts today against Bullard at East Texas Baptist University in a Class 4A bi-district round Game 1 set for 5 p.m.

The Lady Hawks face the Lady Panthers in a three-game series to determine who will advance to the area round. Pleasant Grove finished fourth in District 15-4A, while Bullard is the District 16-4A champion.

"We want to show up with a mindset that is balanced and allows us to reach our potential," Lady Hawks head coach Becca Collom said. "We are focusing on playing our game. We have a game plan, and I think that if we show up and play our game then we can play with anyone."

Pleasant Grove generally has better success against a fast-throwing pitcher. The Hawks will get their chance against Bullard's starter.

"There were times that we have not played to our potential. The mental aspect is the biggest challenge for us," Collom said. "We are aggressive and athletic. The players have put in the work, and they know what to do."

Pleasant Grove looks to play seven solid innings of defense. Collom thinks an error-free start will indicate the level of the team's focus.

"I think if we go out there and have a good, clean start on defense, then that will allow us to be where we need to be mentally," Collom said. "Bullard is fast, athletic and has a solid team."

The winner of the series plays either Caddo Mills or Athens next week in the Class 4A area round.
