TEXARKANA, Texas — Pleasant Grove's varsity girls soccer team accomplished a feat in the 2021 season that is tough to achieve.

The Lady Hawks earned an unblemished District 14-4A record at 8-0. Led by head coach Andy Allen, Pleasant Grove went two rounds deep in the playoffs before suffering a heart-breaking 1-0 loss to Kilgore on March 30 in the area round.

"We had a successful season," Allen said. "Going undefeated in district was special, and we feel like we could still be playing in the playoffs. Sometimes we were closer on the goal, but we didn't get that goal; the other team got it. The 1-0 loss was a tough one, and we wish that we were still playing."

The Lady Hawks roster included seven senior starters and had one of the deepest teams that has come through the program. The 2021 season marked Allen's 14th year coaching at Pleasant Grove.

Pleasant Grove had five double-digit goal scorers in senior Delia Tuttlebee (19), freshman Catherine Joyce (16), senior Aubrey Oller (11), sophomore Emma Boehmke (11) and freshman Riley Williams (10). Freshman Alexis Allen, daughter of Coach Allen, added eight goals.

Tuttlebee finished second all-time with 77 goals in her high school career for the Lady Hawks. Chelsea Cole is the record holder with 118 goals.

"Everyone moved the ball good and played unselfishly," Coach Allen said. "We had a lot of seniors, we had a lot of sophomores that were talented and we had four freshmen that were all pretty talented. We are getting some more freshmen next year who play travel ball who are all pretty good also.

"Experience playing in travel helps. Travel has gotten bigger lately. I think it is always a good thing when I can have a lot of girls that can play and have experience."

Allen said his personal highlight from the season was when the Lady Hawks defeated Paris at Hawk Stadium in their second match of the season. Pleasant Grove posted a 3-0 shutout.

"Last year we were young and it was a transition year," Allen said. "This year the girls were more consistent with their play, in focusing and working hard in practice. I definitely saw a lot of growth. I had a great group of girls.

"Coaching them has been a blessing. It's been fun, and it was great to see them grow. They improved and played at that high level that they were capable of reaching."

The Lady Hawks finished their year at 16-3-4, which included a 9-0 shutout over Van in the bi-district round of the playoffs.
