Lady Hawks face Gilmer in third round of playoffs
5/13/2021

MARSHALL, Texas — Pleasant Grove is in the Class 4A regional quarterfinals of the softball playoffs and faces a familiar foe in Gilmer.

The Lady Hawks clash with the Lady Buckeyes at 5:30 p.m. today at Marshall High School's Lady Maverick Field in Game 1 of a best-of-three series. Both teams are out of District 15-4A.

"They have a good little pitcher," Pleasant Grove head coach Becca Collom said. "We played them twice during the regular season. We are both in the third round, so they can play.

"If we continue to clean up our base running, keep their hitters off balance, limit how many extra bases they get and continue to have good at-bats, then I think we have a good shot. The girls are fired up and ready to go."

The Lady Hawks defeated Henderson in the bi-district round and rolled past Farmersville in the area round. Gilmer shutout Spring Hill in the bi-district round and beat Van in the area round.

During the regular season, the Buckeyes shutout Pleasant Grove, 9-0, in their first meeting and edged the Hawks, 4-2, in the second game back on April 19. Gilmer finished second in the district, while PG was third.

Lexie Snyder is set to start in the circle for Pleasant Grove. Rounding out the Hawk roster are Natalie Nickolson, Zoe Smith, Izzy Hackleman, Ann Elise Lindsay, Timia Cooks, Harleigh O'Neal, Adi Koller, Haylie Teague, Presley Humphrey, MJ Williams, Kaylee Gann, Hailey Allen and Dakaria Moreland.

Game 2 of the series is at 1 p.m. on Saturday back at Marshall High School with a Game 3, if needed, to follow.

The winner will play either Aubrey or Melissa in the Class 4A regional semifinal playoffs next week.
