TEXARKANA, Texas — The finish was appropriate.

Senior Antonio Watkins hit a floater as time expired, and Pleasant Grove rolled past North Lamar, 50-36, on Senior Night in a District 15-4A game at Hawk Gym on Friday.

"We played well," Hawks' head coach Dwight McCowan said. "We got off to a slow start, but we changed some things and got some pressure on the ball. I am happy to be their coach; to get to work with them. They (the seniors) have been here since the eighth grade. It is like watching five of my sons out there."

Pleasant Grove (14-10, 4-3) shot 40 percent from the field, while the Panthers hit on 13 of 46 shots for 28 percent. North Lamar fell to 1-6 in district.

"The seniors all stuck together," McCowan said. "Layton Jackson will always have a special place in my heart. He has come a long way. It is tough for him to the be big brother of a 5-star recruit. Layton exceeded expectations and rose to the occasion this year."

Torey Phillips' layup started a 7-0 spurt for the Hawks in the fourth quarter. Pleasant Grove built a 37-32 lead after the third and were able to milk the clock in the final quarter.

The phenomenal Hawk defense in the fourth quarter resulted in the Panthers scoring just four points.

North Lamar slightly outscored the Hawks in the third, 12-10. All of the Panthers' points come on 3-pointers.

The Hawks had more rebounds, 35-30, and committed less turnovers, 16-9.

Landon Jackson, who finished with a team-high eight rebounds, wedged his way inside and hit a chip shot to inch the Hawks to within a point, 19-18, in the second quarter. The points was the first in a 9-0 Pleasant Grove run.

T'vondrick Henry knocked down a 14-foot jump shot, Torey Phillips had a traditional 3-point play and Jackson hit a pair of charity shots during the run. The spurt gave the Hawks a 25-19 lead.

Pleasant Grove shot 37 percent from the field on 10-of-27 shooting in the first half, while North Lamar hit on 7 of 22 shots for 32 percent.

Both teams got out to a slow start in the first quarter. Henry kept the Hawks in it with six points in the first quarter, and PG led, 10-8, early on.

Pleasant Grove seniors honored before the game were Sergio Rodriguez, KJ Hicks, Watkins, Layton Jackson, Dylan Hopkins, along with managers Dallin Platt and Elijah Jackson.

Henry had a game-high 16 points for the Hawks.

Whitt Lawrence ripped the nets for 18 points, and PG throttled North Lamar in the junior varsity contest, 81-32.

Cason Wright poured in 16 points for Pleasant Grove, Traveler Couch scored 12 and Cohen Cade added 11.
