Postseason wraps up for PG girls

COMMERCE, Texas — It came down the the last tick of the clock.

Pleasant Grove heaved a last-second shot from half court in an attempt to tie the game, but it fell short as the Lady Hawks were edged by Dallas Lincoln, 60-57, in a Class 4A, Region II semifinal at Texas A&M University-Commerce's Field House on Friday.

Pleasant Grove (28-5) had a chance to take a 1-point lead with 4.7 seconds in the fourth. But both shots just swirled out of the basket, the Lady Tigers (21-8) rebounded and the Hawks were forced to foul with 2.6 seconds left.

Pleasant Grove hit on just 11-of-21 free throws shots in the game and shot 52.5 percent from the field (12 of 40).

The Lady Tigers hit 20 of 55 shots for 36 percent and sank 15 of 25 charity shots.

Turnovers were a big factor with the Hawks committing 29 turnovers to just 15 for Lincoln.

Asia Lloyd led PG with a double-double. Lloyd had 14 points and 10 rebounds, Ashanti Levingston scored 13, Miaya Ware and Bryana Block each had 10. Ware pulled down nine boards.

The third quarter was a nip-and-tuck affair with the Hawks taking a 42-40 lead into the final quarter.

Ware converted a traditional 3-point play to put Pleasant Grove up, 54-49, with 2:03 left in the game.

All-state guard Alexis Brown brought the Tigers back as she went on a personal 8-2 rally to put Lincoln up, 58-57, with 9.2 seconds in the game. Brown had a game-high 20 points.

Pleasant Grove went into the locker room with a 2-point lead, 30-28.

Block knocked a shot down from 3-point land to give the Hawks the 2-point lead with 40 seconds left in the second quarter.

Lincoln went on an 8-2 rally at the start of the second, but Levingston's layup provided a spark for Pleasant Grove, who went on a 13-5 run to end the half.

Levingston hit a chip shot for the Hawks' first basket, and Keshawn Davis hit a 12-foot jumper to make it 4-2 in favor of PG.

Lloyd swished in a trey as the Hawks got out to a 7-2 lead. Turnovers hurt Pleasant Grove, and the Tigers went on an 11-2 run to take a 15-11 edge in the first.

Shanequa Henry sank a shot from downtown for the Hawks, and the teams were even after the first quarter at 15-all.

Pleasant Grove shot 52 percent from the field in the first half (12 of 23), while Lincoln shot 37.5 percent (12 of 32).
