COMMERCE, Texas – Heart-breaking would best describe Pleasant Grove’s Region II-4A semifinal basketball playoff loss to Dallas Lincoln.
The Lady Tigers rallied from a five-point deficit in the final minute Friday to end Pleasant Grove’s season, 60-57. Lincoln plays the winner of Friday’s late game between Brownsboro and Melissa at the Texas A&M-Commerce Fieldhouse.
Pleasant Grove (28-5) was in position to upset the state-ranked Tigers when it lost senior guard Shanequa Henry to fouls.
Lincoln’s full-court pressure forced three turnovers in the final seconds, capturing a 58-57 lead. Two missed free throws in the last five seconds kept the Tigers on top. Two more free throws by Lincoln with two seconds left spelled an end to the Hawks’ incredible season.
Senior guard Alexis Brown led the Tigers’ with 20 points. Junior Nakia Brumley added 16, while JaMaya Maryland and Honesty Johnson scored 11 and 10, respectively.
Seniors Asia Lloyd, Ashanti Levingston and Miaya Ware led Pleasant Grove’s attack. Lloyd had 14, Levingston 13, Ware 10, and sophomore Bryana Block 10.
