WILLS POINT, Texas—Pleasant Grove's Clark Giles reached the boys quarterfinals and Gracie Higgins the girls consolation finals Friday in the Wills Point Tournament.

The Class 4A Hawks competed against more than 20 teams, including several Class 5A and 6A teams.

"Today was our toughest tournament of the spring so far and it was a big glimpse into what the strongest regional teams have to offer," Pleasant Grove coach Erik Pickett said. "Today was a big wake-up call that we still have work to do as we prepare for district and regional play."

Giles won two rounds in singles, upsetting Forney's fourth-seeded Samson Sergovia, 9-7. Giles lost to Anna's Rudy Lairson, 8-1, in the quarterfinals.

In girls singles, Higgins lost her opening match before winning three in a row to reach the consolation finals.

PG's Shannon Lee and Grant Mitchell advanced to the quarterfinals in mixed double before losing to a Mesquite Horn duo, 8-4.
