Lady Hawks fall to Paris in district opener

TEXARKANA, Texas — Pleasant Grove had 36 turnovers and fell to Paris, 61-44, in a varsity girls District 15-4A opener on Tuesday at Hawk Gym.

"I was satisfied with our effort in the second half," Lady Hawks head coach Marsha Cowling said. "The second quarter just snowballed. We got into foul trouble with a bunch of girls."

Pleasant Grove outscored the Lady Cats, 28-23, in the second half.

The Hawks faced a 38-16 deficit to open up the third quarter. Paris went on a 17-0 run in the second and outscored Pleasant Grove, 25-3. Lexi Snyder hit a shot from 3-point land for Pleasant Grove to open up the second quarter.

Paris shot 40 percent from the field on 24-of-60 shooting, while Pleasant Grove knocked down 17 of 40 shots (43 percent from the field). The Hawks had more turnovers, 36-26, and less rebounds, 42-30.

Charity shots were a factor in the game with Pleasant Grove shooting just 18 percent (4 of 22), and the Lady Cats sank 10 of 18 free throws for 56 percent.

Emma Henard paced the Hawks with 12 points, including two shots from downtown. Adi Koller added 10 points to go with five rebounds, Jazz Moses had five boards and Snyder finished with eight points, including two 3-pointers.

 

Henard scored 10 of her 12 points in the first quarter, in which her seven points got PG off to a 7-0 start. The first quarter ended in a tie at 13-all.

Paris had eight field goals in the second quarter along with seven points from the stripe.

Koller started the Hawk scoring in the third when she drove in for a layup. Pleasant Grove outscored Paris in the third quarter, 12-11.

Henard's 8-foot jump shot open up the scoring in the fourth quarter. The Hawks had a 5-0 spurt to end the game, including four points on Autumn Crouch's pair of layups.

Pleasant Grove hosts Pittsburg in a District 15-4A game on Friday.
