TEXARKANA, Texas — A last-second shot just fell short for Pleasant Grove, and Pittsburg edged the Lady Hawks, 57-56, in a girls varsity District 15-4A basketball game on Friday at Hawk Gym.

With 5.4 seconds left in the game the Hawks inbounded the ball, dribbled the length of the court and got off a 6-foot jump shot that fell short.

"Our defense was amazing," Pleasant Grove head coach Marsha Cowling said. "They did so well at creating turnovers and getting steals. We had some turnovers on their press, but we broke it 85 percent of the time. We did not do that (breaking the press) well in our last game.

"The girls showed improvement. They came out and kept fighting. They did a good job coming back in the game. I can't wait for the next game."
