TEXARKANA, Texas — Liberty-Eylau outscored Pleasant Grove in all four quarters and won, 61-32, in a cross-town rivalry, District 15-4A girls varsity basketball game at Hawk Gym on Monday.

"I am not liking the way we are starting," Lady Leopards head coach LaMarcus Franklin said. "We started slow and have to work on getting on teams early. I think they played really well. Our rebounding and defense was solid. All of the girls got playing time, so that helps us out further down the road."

Bryana Block poured in a game-high 25 points for Liberty-Eylau, while teammate Jakai Ray had a game-high nine rebounds. Ja'Niya Sanders added eight rebounds for the Leopards, who out-rebounded the Lady Hawks, 38-30

"We did not run our offense," Pleasant Grove head coach Marsha Cowling said. "We were intimidated on offense. In the first half, we played really good defense but could not score. We allowed Bryana (Block) to score too many points. Adi Koller did really well on defense. Our turnovers, lack of scoring and not rebounding were our biggest issues.

"The girls fought their hearts out. They were tough. We just didn't adjust to things that we needed to adjust to."

The Hawks went 0 for 8 in field goal shooting in the first quarter. Pleasant Grove hit on 12 of 36 shots (33 percent from the field). Liberty-Eylau shot 37 percent from the field on 23-of-63 shooting.

Koller led the Hawks with seven rebounds and a team-high six points. Lexi Snyder added five points, including a trey, for Pleasant Grove.

Block scored seven points in the third quarter, and the Leopards outscored the Hawks, 13-9. Block continued to pour on the heat in the final quarter as she slashed to the basket many times to match Pleasant Grove's team total in the quarter (12).

The Hawks had 30 turnovers, while Liberty-Eylau had just 10 in the game.

The Leopards took a 23-11 lead at the half. Liberty-Eylau shot 26 percent from the field in the first half on 9-of-34 shooting.

Pleasant Grove hit 4 of 16 shots for 25 percent and did not sink a field goal until 6:14 left in the second quarter.

The game started off slowly with L-E outscoring PG, 8-1, in the first quarter. The Leopards continued the trend with a 15-10 advantage in the second.

"It's always sweet to win against a cross-town rival," Franklin said. "Hats off to their coach, she always does a great job with the girls year in and year out. It's always going to be a battle."
