TEXARKANA, Texas — Sometimes Senior Night festivities can pose as a distraction, but sometimes it doesn't.
The Lady Hawks fell to the Lady Leopards Friday night in their District 15-4A contest at the Rader Dome on Senior Night, 58-20.
The Leopards opened the game on a 12-0 run, before the Hawks answered back on Autumn Crouch's free throw with 3:00 left in the first period.
"We're learning and improving every game," Pleasant Grove coach Marsha Cowling said. "We didn't step out on the court ready to play. We played them a lot better at home. We're a young team and making those first-year mistakes.
"We've improved each game. That's all you can do. L-E is a really good team, We're just going to continue to work."
Cierra Manley had three steals for L-E in the first period.
Manley finished with four steals, six points and four rebounds.
Myah Hurd's putback with 5:50 before halftime, put the Leopards ahead, 24-1.
Bryana Block added two steals, three rebounds and seven points for the Leopards.
Lexi Snyder drained a trey from the top of the key, with 3:50 left in the second period, cutting the Hawks' scoring drought, 26-4.
Snyder opened the scoring in the second half with a corner trey, cutting the Leopards' cushion to 22 points, 30-8.
Snyder finished the game with six points for PG.
Tamara Norris sparked the Leopards offensively in the third period with six points, while finishing the game with 12.
Crouch's three-pointer for the Hawks cut into the L-E lead with 2:00 remaining in the third, 38-12.
Liberty-Eylau used a platoon substitution gameplan, keeping the Hawks on their heels with fresh legs.
Ty Crabtree netted 12 points for the Leopards.
"Tonight was special for us," Liberty-Eylau head coach Lamarcus Franklin said. "We got a big win over our cross-town rival, but I'm happy we got to send our seniors off the right way after all their hard work these past four years. Our seniors played most of the first quarter and all of the fourth quarter for us tonight."
The Leopards edged the Hawks in the junior varsity game in overtime, 39-35.
Bre Adams finished with 11 points for L-E.
