TEXARKANA, Texas — Tucker Anderson threw four innings of 1-hit ball, struck out five, walked one and tossed 45 pitches to power Pleasant Grove over Pittsburg, 12-2, in a District 15-4A opener baseball game at Hawk Field on Tuesday.

Anderson also knocked in the game-ending run in the fifth inning with a single to right field as the Hawks earned the victory on the run-rule. Anderson was 2 for 4 at the plate with 2 RBI.

"We got a great performance from Tucker on the mound," Pleasant Grove head coach Riley Fincher said. "He has thrown a lot in the last couple of weeks so we wanted to get him three or four innings. He showed what type of arm he can be for us."

Braden Hlavinka, who drove in two runs, doubled in the first inning for the Hawks with one out. Marshall Cox brought Hlavinka around on an RBI triple down the right field line for Pleasant Grove's first run. The Hawks built an 8-run lead in the first.

Anderson smacked an RBI double down the third base line, Alex Murphy walked and Brock Bearden, who later scored on a wild pitch, juiced the bases with a bunt single. Andrew LeGrand drove in a pair of runs on a double to left-center to make it 5-0.

Josh Brown walked, and Hayden Koller laced in a 2-run double to left to put the Hawks on top 7-0. Cox skied a sacrifice fly to right to bring in Koller, and PG led 8-0.

"We swung the bats well early in the game," Fincher said. "We did what we had to do offensively in order to execute. We had two zeros in the third and fourth innings. We got complacent at the plate and that's something that we have to continue to work harder at. It was good to see us come back in the fifth and respond with three runs after they scored two."

LeGrand hit a hot roller down the third base line to score Murphy, who was hit by a pitch, in the second frame.

The Pirates scored a pair of runs in the fifth to inch a little closer, 9-2.

David Singleton and Koller reach base on back-to-back errors by Pittsburg's first baseman. Hlavinka added a 2-RBI single to left center to give the Hawks an 11-2 lead. Anderson clubbed a single to right with an out in the fifth to give PG the run-rule win.

Pleasant Grove (8-3, 1-0) plays in the Benton, La., baseball tournament starting on Thursday.
