Hawks roll past Leopards

Everything came together like building blocks for one city team.

Pleasant Grove's solid pitching and hitting led to a 7-1 win over cross-town rival Liberty-Eylau in a District 15-4A baseball game at H.E. Markham Park on Friday.

Senior Ryan Galvan earned the win on the hill, tossed seven innings, gave up a run on four hits, struck out 13, and hit a batter.

The Hawks plated three runs in the sixth to take a 6-run lead going into the final frame.

Seth Hopkins singled through the hole at short, stole second, and moved up to third on a Liberty-Eylau throwing error in the sixth. A batter later, Galvan safely bunted on and drove in Hopkins.

Parker Twisdale singled to right, and Andrew LeGrand laced a single to left center to score Galvan. Twisdale scored on a fielder's choice to make it 7-1.

Ben Witterstaetter took the loss, throwing 3 1/3 innings. He gave up three runs—one unearned—on four hits, and did not have a strikeout nor a walk.

Jackson Cobb smacked a deep shot to center for a triple as Ben Harmon, who reached on an error, scored in the first frame. Cobb scored on a fielder's choice to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead.

Marzavin Riles crushed a solo home run to straight-away center for the Leopards to make it 2-1 after a frame of action.

Galvan caught a pop bunt and threw to first for a double play for Pleasant Grove in the second inning.

Hopkins doubled to center for the Hawks and scored on Marshall Cox's RBI double to right center. Pleasant Grove took a 3-1 lead going into the fifth.

Keaton Russo's sacrifice bunt in the fifth scored LeGrand, who had singled up the middle, to pad the Hawks' lead, 4-1.

Hopkins was 2 for 3, and LeGrand went 2 for 4 for Pleasant Grove.
